Kelly offers equine assisted psychotherapy at Chastain Horse Park in Atlanta.
Kelly Stephens is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT, and runs a private practice called Habersham Therapy with her colleague Carter Monroe, LCSW, in Tuxedo Center of North Buckhead.
Kelly specializes in maternal mental health, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions and couples therapy. She holds a Bachelor of Science Marketing degree from Miami University of Ohio and graduated from Mercer School of Medicine with a Master of Family Therapy. She is an active member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and serves on the Georgia Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (GAMFT).
Kelly holds certifications from The Postpartum Stress Center in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders and from the Equine Assisted Growing and Learning Association (EAGALA) as an Advanced Skill Mental Health Professional. She volunteers her time leading Postpartum Support International (PSI) support groups to increase mental health accessibility and to provide psychoeducation on mood disorders during pregnancy.
Kelly is a mom to three daughters, several furry family members, and a flock of backyard coop chickens. In her free time, Kelly enjoys exploring the beautiful Georgia state park equestrian trails on horseback.
Equine Psychotherapy Credentials
In addition to licensure as an LMFT, Kelly holds an EAGALA advanced skill mental health professional certification and is PATH trained as a mental health professional.
EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growing and Learning Association) and PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) are well respected international organizations with therapeutic models that incorporate horses into mental health treatment and require professional standards for certification. Chastain Horse Park has earned the level of a premier accredited PATH facility, and all equine-specialist staff members hold PATH certifications.
Both PATH and EAGALA are international, nonprofit professional associations who are leaders in equine-assisted psychotherapy training, certification, and empirically supported therapeutic models.
Tribute to Loran Conner
My good friend, chosen family member and horsemanship mentor, Loran Conner, died on January 28, 2023, at the age of 66. Survived by his wife, Mary Jane Conner, they shared their beautiful horse herd, opened their hearts and helped heal mine. I will forever be grateful to this rugged, roll-up-your-sleeves, salt of the earth country man for everything.
Loran, you are in my thoughts and will forever hold a place deep in my heart. Thank you for all that you taught me…about horses, life, loss and healing.
